Yemeni women's wedding celebrations take place in the "mafraj", a spacious room with large rectangular windows on all sides. The Traditional Yemenite Bride is know for her detailed attire with veiled headdress and elaborate jewelry. Her hands have been decorated with henna. Photos are the only time they are seen together during the day of their wedding celebration. While hidden earlier for several hours inside a white limousine, the bride leads a caravan of cars honking horns through the streets of the town to announce the start of the wedding. The Sephardic Jewish community of Rhodes now living in Seattle, Los Angeles and Portland has a similar tradition.

With 20 of their closest friends by their side to witness their ceremony, they exchanged personal wedding vows under the chuppah, a Jewish wedding canopy.

One in the morning before the bride leaves her home, and another ceremony following their vows, when the couple arrive at the groom's family home. In ancient Chinese tradition, the bride leaves her birth family to become a part of the groom's family. Today many couples choose to honor both the bride and the groom's families by hosting tea ceremonies for both sets of parents.
