Serving tea, China's national drink, is a time-honored wedding ceremony created to show respect for the couple's family and their ancestral lineage. Historically, there were two tea ceremonies. One in the morning before the bride leaves her home, and another ceremony following their vows, when the couple arrive at the groom's family home. In ancient Chinese tradition, the bride leaves her birth family to become a part of the groom's family. Today many couples choose to honor both the bride and the groom's families by hosting tea ceremonies for both sets of parents.
